Jake & Ray's Sassasfras Wedding
Jake and Ray had a lovely wedding right in the middle of the holidays. It wasn’t too cold considering it was winter, (it actually was mostly raining!) and we were lucky to get a window of time to shoot outside in beautiful Yorkville. Jake and Ray were a completely lovely couple. I had met Jake while at university, and I knew that he had since moved to Seoul, South Korea. Soon after, Jake and Ray met each other while teaching English at the same language school, and the rest is history!
In South Korea, gay marriages are not currently legal - something Jake mentioned to me while we were taking photos. Jake and Ray told me some small bits and pieces of their story - they had overcome many obstacles to get to their wedding day. It was really lovely to be there with them as they walked hand in hand through Yorkville, where lots of people stopped to congratulate them, tell them how great they looked, and they got lots of smiles (which may have been due to their super cute matching Tiffany-esque suits..)
Their ceremony was small and intimate. Their vows were beautiful, and hardly a single eye was dry towards the end of the ceremony. Jake and Ray’s wedding theme had hints of Tiffany’s throughout it - the couple’s wedding bands were from Tiffany, and their matching ties & suits very much Tiffany-inspired. (Of course, we had to get some shots at Tiffany’s on Bloor!) After the ceremony, the couple changed into burgundy and navy suits for the reception. The reception was mostly planned and coordinated by a lot of Jake and Ray’s Canadian friends, as the couple had essentially had to plan the event from overseas. It was a lovely day to be a part of! Here are a few of my favourite images from their wedding.
